    You should install xml code for home page and create showcase static block according to installation instructions.

  Hi I am using Magento 1.5.1
  
  I am trying to put in an about us page and along with the different categories of products directly into the top navigation bar instead of the default products category. Can you please guide me as to how I should go about this.
  
  Also I am unable to change the colours to the 9 other options I have in the theme but it doesn't seem to be working. Can you help me with this as well.

    You can put your static links into cms static block menu or edit template directly at templates/catalog/navigation/top.phtml

  The store catalog is not displaying on the left column. Just after a fresh install of your lastest version with magento 1.5.1.

    Do you have at least one child category assigned to your root category?
